BCPS 2013: Statistics (Introduction)

Statistics are heavily covered on the exam. One of the things I did upon starting the test was to copy this graph on the front cover of my  test book and used it throughout.  Yes, it would be easier if there were sections:  statistics, cardiology, etc… but what you’ll find are questions that jump from topic to topic.   I will do this again!  Memorize:

  1. The good and the bad about the stats on the exam is that they cover many different areas. I think this is in large part because when BPS solicits questions for the exam, they ask BCPS’d folks for them, and they suggest areas of focus for them (at least they used to). One of those is statistics, and the question authors are not statisticians – they’re mostly people with a working knowledge of stats. So being able to identify the type of data to use an appropriate test goes really far, as does knowledge of power, significance, odds ratios, etc.

I totally agree with every point you made. Those were ALL on the test. More than once as well. I have to say the second time around it makes MUCH more sense.
