You really do have to wean yourself off the pills slowly, just as you should have been weaned on to them. if you just stop them dead then the side effects are going to be full blast, and can even lead to health problems. I've just finished weaning off a low dose of efexor and have tiny brain zaps, your's must be mind blowing. Your doctor should try putting you on something like Prozac for a brief period to help with the zaps if necessary. Otherwise another thing to try is taking the Lexapro every 2nd day for a couple of weeks, then every 3rd, then 4th, etc. until the zap diminish to a bearable level.
Good luck and I hope you have a happier life from now on :)

I was taking Lexapro. I have not taken it in about a weak. The brain shocks are horrible. I thought I was dying or something. Glad to know that evetually I will be allright. I also quite smoking a month ago and that was nothign compared to this. I wish there was some way to make the brain shocks stop. I have never sewed anyone in my life and I would definatly sew the makers of Lexapro. There is no way for me to taper down as I was on the lowest dosage provided.Lexapro and all the other companies should at least have something to make the brain shocks go away. I don't think I can handle these shocks for two years. Does anyone have any suggestions?

THANK YOU for writing this. I have been experiencing what I call "brain zaps" for a week or two but had no idea what was going on. I Googled the term since I had no other way to convey what I was feeling to my partner; sure enough, the second result was this post. Seeing as I recently reduced my dosage of venlafaxine from 225mg to 150mg daily, and how your post accurately described my experiences, I know that it must be withdrawal symptoms I'm experiencing, which is a relief. My partner and I were starting to worry if I was somehow developing a nervous system disease or something! You've saved us from having to pay for doctor visits and expensive tests. I'll wait out the symptoms and hopefully be back to normal sooner than later. Thank you thank you thank you.

This is very strange - I've been getting these "zaps" more and more frequently (like once every few weeks, used to be every few months) but I've never been on these drugs. Well, I took two lorazapam pills a couple months ago for a transcontinental flight, but otherwise, no medication stronger than heartburn pills.

Anyhow, I'm glad to hear the condition described so clearly, it was hard to explain it to other people.

This is my second post. I've since found an additional cause of brain zaps! That is ELECTROMAGNITIC RADIATION! I have been suffering terribly with brain zaps for several month after moving into an rv. on newly developed land and switching from propane to electric for heat and hot water. I've about gone crazy with these brain and full body zaps. either that or an almost constant buzz and ringing in my ears since moving here. i had isolated incidents of ear ringing before moving here but not like this. there are devices available to neutralize emf's and i have purchased a few but i'm still having problems! i had also been on antidepressants years ago and was on a nutritional cleansing program which can cause elimination of old toxins, such as antidepressants that have been stored in the body for years. so the antidepressant cause of the zaps made sense to me and i appreciated the information. however, there was/is more to it for me and that is the EMF POLLUTION problem. EMF POLLUTION is caused not only by stray electricity from appliances, cell phones, and wifi. but it is caused also from synthetic fabrics, such as carpet, furniture and clothing! more info below on that.

EMF NEUTRALIZING DEVICES/TESTING METER
There are devices that can be purchased to neutralize this emf pollution. i have purchased a few and still have the problem. However the electricity in your home must have complete circuits in each room to work. most homes do but older may not and in my situation in an rv that has added electrical. it was a problem. there is a way around it however which i did try to do so the whole house unit would work and have not been able to in two areas. i've ordered other devices that should fill the gaps. i also ordered a meter to measure the emf's in and around my home, it was very inexpensive. i first ordered a more expensive one that did not work for me, too complicated, then found another on amazon that does. it's made by k-11 Enterprises, for about $35.00.

EMF ZAP TEST
In the mean time i had an experience yesterday afternoon where i was getting the zaps in brain and upper body and decided to do some testing that i am pasting here.

Note: These brain and even full body zaps are pretty much going on all the time but at times, they get worse MUCH WORSE INVOLVING WHOLE BODY!

Here's a test i did to find out the cause.

12/31/11 EVENING. ABOUT 2:00pm till dark at 4:oo pm I WAS HAVING STRONG BRAIN ZAPS after lying down on my couch for a rest. They were repetitive, about 20 seconds apart.

i decided to unplug each appliance i had running one, at a time, to get to the bottom of the cause. First, i eliminated the boot dryer with it's 12 volt w/ transformer. then well house heater, then computer, then all computer related transformers, then 2 in house heaters, then fridge, a little add on house under my 5th wheel rv overhang, then well house pump equipment, then under house lights(to prevent freezing of pipes), and last; water heater under house. THE ZAPS STILL CAME!

SMART METER
The only thing left on at all was the smart meter! which transfers to elec co. via phone line and which my elec co. says does not give off emf's because it goes over the phone line. BUT IN THIS CASE IT IS!

i know it isn't doing all of it, but it is doing a strong, about 3 second long zap, periodically, about every 15-20 seconds!

LATER OBSERVATION
now at 4:45 am. i'm up and have turned on the two heaters. light under table light (100 w for heat), computer, and router next to me with earth calm wifi attached to it supposed to eliminate wifi vibes. And am getting strong vibrations from something but not the full zap. It lessened considerably when unplugging above router transformer with Earth Calm WiFi protector attached to it that is designed to neutralize wifi from myself and neighbors (i don't use wifi but neighbors do. Originally I had about 4 other transformers plugged in the same power strip that went to hard drives, an electric screw driver, speaker phone, and cell phone charger. But i found they all put out huge emf's from the meter i used so i pulled all of them and only plug in what i'm using in the moment.

LATER 4:48,: STATUS UPDATE: IT HAS CALMED DOWN A LOT (probably the original
start up just now caused more as recorded above) but is still there on a subtle level.

Note: when originally installing the router& transformer for wifi neutralizer device, i felt a strong calm as i did with each earth calm protector i've purchased, the whole house, cell phone, and wifi. But it hasn't lasted at all! It seems to wear down as time goes on and i'm soon having the problems again even though all of the devices are plugged in.

ANOTHER CAUSE: In addition to the above and is more subtle than the above appliances. SYNTHETIC FABRICS. MY KNIT HAT EXPERIENCE: i also noticed a strong bad buzzing feeling in my head while wearing my hat knit from synthetic yarn! my head felt bombarded with emf's still!!!!! till i took it off and had immediate releaf (all the other stuff was still off too)! I did another test, put a cotton t shirt on my head to replace the had and keep my head warm. That awful feeling and buzz stopped. But again, all those other things are turned off at the moment except lights in various places.

I have found another source of emf protectors that i have ordered that i hope will fill the gap in my system.

This has been such a huge thing for me. I think the emf's build up in this rv. because of the metal shell and had planned to ground the shell which i haven't done yet thinking i might have it solved other ways, but still will if it turns out that i need to. I found that turning on a fan to bring in fresh air helps and so does spritzing plain water into the air and around the appliances that it won't hurt. A humidifier may take care of that part too.
emf's from synthetic carpet seem to be worse on hot dry days.

what a deal. it seems our major problem on this plane of existence is we are electrocuting ourselves. And it seems to me this is true of every area of our lives, physical, mental, emotional, and spiritual.

Physically, all toxins and pollutants, and chemical, synthetic medicines have a positive charge. The natural remedies have an negative/grounding charge that neutralize the excess positive and allows healing.
Emotionally: Anger is an electrically positive charge, Feeling into and allowing movement in our so called negative emotions is the balancing negative charge we need to neutralize the anger! Moving it vibrationally, like crying, raging by ourselves, feeling our grief, etc. neutralizes the anger.

Electricity in our homes has a positive charge and without grounding can kill us! Spiritually, our male side is positive and our female side is negative/grounding to us. If we get too much positive and not enough negative to balance it out, We have trouble no matter what area we look at! I think the problems in the world as a whole are caused by the basic electrical gap in human beings between their masculine and feminine sides.
Boy! What a Deal! Our problem is denial of the feminine! And has been forever! But the deal is also that we need a balance, rather than control by either side.

I'm on my second day of these. I knew it had to be related to having just being weaned off Efexor but they were a surprise none the less. They remind me of the feeling you get a second before you faint, or a milder version of that "jolt" you get just as you fall asleep and are suddenly jerked awake. It's like your whole brain just disappears out of your skull for a second.
Hopefully these won't last me too long as I wasn't taking them for too long (<6 mths) and I did di a slow wean off them.
